Birth, Marriage & Death Records: UK Archives presents BMD, an online platform offering free access to birth, marriage, and death records. Perfect for those embarking on their genealogical journey, this resource provides invaluable insights. Since 1837, the central recording of births, marriages, and deaths has been vital for genealogical research. Teams of dedicated volunteers meticulously transcribe records, ensuring index information availability from 1837 to 1992.
Census Database: Explore the 19th-century UK census returns with CEN, an online database provided by the UK Archives. These census records offer detailed information, including full names, exact ages, relationships to the head of household, gender, occupations, places of birth, medical conditions, and employment statuses. Currently, the project focuses on transcribing census data from 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1891. Additionally, certain counties are transcribing the 1881 census, further enriching the available information.
Parish Registers: Delve into the UK’s parish registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials with REG, another project by the UK Archives. Parish registers are invaluable resources for tracing family history and capturing vital events within local communities. Dedicated volunteers diligently transcribe these records, ensuring their accessibility to researchers worldwide. Covering various periods, FreeREG enables individuals to trace their ancestors through generations and across geographical locations.
